Tomcat First Part

I got to capture a cat today after it failed to run under my car tires at Leroys house. I thought you might like to know about it.

With the Raccoon trap? Mother mentioned the humane society – but no one goes to the pound looking for a cat…. The owner just assumes its dead, which it will be if left at the humane society. You might want to check with the neighbors.

Most people up there just shoot the tomcats that get into their stuff...and the neighbors are hard to find among all the farms. If the owner doesn't care what happens to him then should I? He's been forcing the other two cats to starve.

Whatever ….. typical from you

What would you have done about a stingy cat that roams...asked the owner, after a long search, to make it an inside cat so it won't stray? What else was there to do?

Most farmers want and need a good mouser. Why do you think LeRoy has cats in his barn? If you made an ounce of effort you could have either, found the proper owner and warned him that the cat would end up in the pound the next time, or offered it to any farmer around there as a mouser. All that’s required is to put some dry food out time to time to keep it around, mousing. I guess what really amazes me is how you take a task and reduce it to the most minimal of efforts. That’s what gets me. Because I’m sure my suggestions make you roll your eyes because it requires doing something instead of just going the easiest route possible.

Door to door cat give away? What happens when it goes right back to Leroys house and eats all the cat food again leaving the other without any? They won't go near the food when he's there. I'm not going to use all day trying to find the owner. Obviously food and mice weren't enough to keep the cat home in the first place so how would it be different if I gave him to someone else?

Well, what I’m very sure about is that you did the research and drove the extra couple of miles to put it in to a facility that doesn’t euthanize. Oh right, I’m talking to you – which ever is closest, easiest, and doesn’t take away from your “oh-so-busy” day. No other thoughts are processed on the matter.

Well, after you bitched so much, I put the Tomcat on a bus to Dallas...you may pick it up at the Dallas bus station in the morning and take it to your house and give it its own room with a TV to keep it company. Just make sure your other cat doesn't die of starvation while the Tomcat eats all of its food. Does Dallas have a place that doesn't euthanize? Do they keep the cats till they die of old age? Do you have a grip on reality?

Are you in that much of a black hole you don’t even know what is in your community? 25 years ago we took a dog to a facility in Fayetteville/Springdale, that doesn’t euthanize. Does your incredible laziness control your every thought and movement (or lack therof)? What a stupid question.
This is the one I wanted to send, but didn’t

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

What goes around comes around. Just remember the Tomcat. when you are needing to believe in the kindness of strangers or help from others, don’t be surprised when someone gathers you in only to hand you off to an organization that’s charter is to kill you or sell you to scientific research lab. When you don’t have the means or wherewithal to control your own destiny, well, good luck.

You seem to have a gross misconception of what the humane society does and the volume of unwanted stray animals roaming the streets. It would be nice if there was a place that could take care of a million cats without homes, but the reality is that they would be fighting among themselves for what available food sources there were, and some of the weaker older cats would starve to death. Cats are hunters and killers and don't like to share. I know thats not what you want to hear. So if you have a realistic plan for saving all the stray animals in the world lets hear it. I don't think there is a place with enough money to manage it all. Euthanizing is the most humane thing to do under the circumstances, and there is always the chance the owner will look at the humane society first for the lost pet, or if the owner doesn't come, someone may adopt...they aren't just warehoused and killed for no reason. You might look and try to find a place in Dallas that takes care of these animals, and if you don't find one there, then it definitely doesn't exist here. Ask Leroy about it...he's been trying to chase this cat away for quite awhile and would have had Wally shoot it at some point...so I did the best thing I could think of...I guess I'm sorry that I'm a heartless lazy bastard in your eyes...so come on Karma, bring it on!

I understand you want to change the topic to something bigger, and in your mind, a more worthwhile debate. Even though your comments were educationaI I was not particularly needing to re-examine the instinctual attributes of cats, or was I initiating a worldwide plan that provides shelter to all the strays in the world, nor was I needing to know the “mission statement” and “business rules” of the humane society. No, all these topics were a very informative “refresher” on crap I already know, but the obvious thing here is your attempt at deflecting the question which was in short; Did you make a single effort on behalf of this one particular cat to find its owner or put in a non-euthanizing shelter, and the answer is no, That’s all I was getting at.
